Activities to help you through your healing journey
Engaging in an activity, whether rekindling a past passion or trying something new, can be a powerful tool for healing from trauma. Creative or immersive activities provide a sense of purpose, structure, and emotional expression, which can help process difficult experiences in a non-verbal way. They also foster a sense of accomplishment, build resilience, and create opportunities for joy and connection.
Here are a few examples:
- Art & Crafting – Painting, knitting, or pottery can serve as therapeutic outlets, allowing emotions to be expressed and released in a tangible form.
- Music – Playing an instrument or singing can be soothing and help regulate emotions by engaging both the mind and body.
- Gardening – Tending to plants provides a grounding experience, reinforcing patience, growth, and nurturing.
- Writing & Journaling – Expressing thoughts through poetry, fiction, or personal reflection can help process and make sense of emotions.
- Cooking & Baking – Creating something nourishing can provide comfort, mindfulness, and a sense of control.
Each of these activities fosters a sense of engagement and self-expression, supporting the healing journey in a gentle and meaningful way.
The NHS also provide ‘Social Prescribing’ to help with wellbeing.
